So far that day anyone with a photo pass could shoot every artist. When it came time to get escorted into the photo pit for Beastie Boys we found out that only a few were selected to shoot them. I don't know how but as fate would have it, I was given the green light.
Anyone who knows me well knows my deep admiration for Beastie Boys. Ever since License To Ill came out when I was 13. By the time they released Ill Communication in 1994, they’d earned Legend status as far as I'm concerned so this gig was a big deal for me.
Like many other great bands, you’ll be seeing a lot more Beastie Boys on AlmostFamous.ca but these are my first photos of them.
Lollapalooza '94 was one of the greatest lineups I can remember, including Green Day, Beastie Boys and Smashing Pumpkins, A Tribe Called Quest, Nick Cave and George Clinton.
With three huge singles from Dookie released so far, Green Day were at the height of their newfound superstardom but they hadn't let it change them one bit. I've seen them a bunch of times but this show was definitely my favourite.
These were relatively early days for Green Day, when Billie Joe still had a paranoid look on his face and crooked teeth in his mouth. In the first song someone threw a Converse One Star and it bounced off his guitar and bopped me in the head. I took the shoe home but have no idea where it ended up. Sorry to whoever had to walk home with one shoe.
